California Modern with Double Basement

OVERVIEW

This 4500 sq. foot modern style house located in Los Altos Hills was a new experience for BDCe. It was our first double basement construction.

The homeowners wanted a squash court below their basement, which required building multiple levels below grade. The challenge we encountered was having to construct 25-foot high walls to supports both basements. A wall of that magnitude below grade has the responsibility to sustain the homes structure as well as the earth around it. Once the lower basement was in place the remainder of the concrete work could be completed.
